Homeschool Agenda ~ 2008-2009
We are using A.C.E for our core subjects. (Reading, English, Math, Science and Social Studies). They seem like a decent company so far. I don’t have much experience with them because last year we sort made our own way without the use of an entire laid out curriculum. So far though I’ve received excellent customer service and fast shipping on my order! My daughter already knows how to read pretty well so when I called ACE Ministries and asked if she needed a certain part of the curriculum that would have pretty much doubled the price they actually said no. Doesn’t seem like they are just out to make a buck off somebody, which makes this frugal momma pretty happy.
We are also planning to purchase Prima Latina, which I’ve already posted about on this blog! CHECK IT OUT!
We are also going to delve deeper into Sign Language this year. I LOVE sign Language and so do my children. They sign “I love you” to me daily and they already know some basic manners, such as please and thank you. I’m using a book this year titled The Joy of Signing written by Lottie Riekehof. It’s a good book that I’ve been learning from for a while now. There are also several sites online that have streaming sign videos. And sites that offer free printable worksheets and flashcards for sign language. Here are a just a few..
Next we have Bible Lessons. We’ll be reading, learning and incorporating Bible into all of our subjects and it being a lesson on it’s own. We haven’t quite laid out exactly what we will be doing yet but I would like to focus on 4 books this year. One for each 9 weeks of school. I’ll get back to that when I have figured out more about it…
And Lastly, Music….Our daughter has a Mandolin. She got if for her Birthday from her sweet maw-maw. She loves to sing as long as too many people aren’t listening and she strums that mandolin like it sounds just like she wants it to already. She already loves it. So I found a site online with free mandolin lessons and am going to attempt to learn something myself and then teach it to her. We’ll learn together. There are also certain songs that we already have music to that she will be learning. The Broken Ones, by Lauren Talley, who is her favorite gospel singer! She actually met her not too long ago! And a song I will not mention yet because it’s a surprise! It’s in another language though, that’s all I’ll say!
We are going to have a fun year!!! I’m ready!!!
